The Addams Family – Musical

In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family, and the spookiest nightmare faced by every family creates the focus Lippa, Brickman, and Elice’s musical: the Addams kids are growing up. The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

Sarah Hunt Awards & Blackbox Show

Every year the drama department honors Sara Hunt, one of the founders of the Blackbox shows who died in her early twenties from leukemia – with the “Sara Hunt Blackbox show.” As part of the annual showcase, the Theater department presents the Sara Hunt Award to the student in the cast who most demonstrates and practices the virtues of ensemble and theatre.

Almost Maine

A woman carries her heart, broken into nineteen pieces, in a small paper bag. A man shrinks to half his former size, after losing hope in love. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of John Cariani’s Almost, Maine, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost — not organized enough for a town, too populated for a wilderness — experience the life-altering power of the human heart. Relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers. Propelled by the mystical energy of the aurora borealis and populated with characters who are humorous, plain-spoken, thoughtful, and sincere, Almost, Maine is a series of loosely connected tales about love, each with a compelling couple at its center, each with its own touch of sorcery.

Black Box Show

Started many years ago by a group of students who wanted “more of an artistic” kind of show, the purpose of the Blackbox show is to feature student actors and writers in productions that tend to lean more edgy. All scripts performed at Bellevue’s Blackbox show’s are original and entirely student-written.

“It is very much like Saturday Night Live,” said Drama Director David Kline. “Some of the scripts are funny, some are of a more serious tone and some are musical.” But no matter the story line, Kline said, the Blackbox shows are always high energy and a lot of fun.

Thank You To Our Generous Family Sponsors!

It’s time for another great year of Theater Arts at Bellevue High School! If you’ve had the privilege of seeing a show at BHS in the past, then you know how amazing our students are. The Theater program at BHS is truly incredible, from our talented actors to our behind the scenes tech, sound and lighting crews…..did I mention our fabulous faculty who direct, stage manage, orchestrate, mentor and teach? We thrive on talent, but we are fueled by support – support from parents and patrons like YOU.

Ticket and concession sales only cover a portion of our annual operating budget and our program depends heavily on the fundraising efforts of the Theater Boosters and generous donations from our family sponsors. Your donation will help us provide set materials, costume supplies, marketing materials such as programs, funding for scholarships, school trips, snacks and dinners for long rehearsals, hired experts in vocal and dance training to name just a few.

So therefore, we invite you to become a family sponsor in support of our unique program – now, and in the future. You can do so at 5 different giving levels (see below). To find out more, reach out to David Kline or our Booster President Marc Whitten. Thank you.
